What a fantastic World Book Day we had on Thursday 5 March - across the trust - in all of our schools - from every year group. We can’t explain how much colour, fun, energy and positivity was demonstrated from both the teaching staff and pupils.
We have a few photos from the day sent in by our schools – these are just a window into the imagination and scope of events that were organised and wonderfully supported by our school communities, including the families of our children. World Book Day costumes are a traditional event in most schools up and down the country and we don’t underestimate the commitment to making this a success for each pupil.
World Book Day has its roots somewhere in the 90s (there are reports of different dates) but however you look at it, that’s at least 3 decades of appreciating the amazing benefits of reading and the written word in all its forms. We are very keen to encourage a love of reading, however that works best for each and every child.
As the organisers of World Book Day promote: “If you’re into it, read into it” which frames it perfectly.
Whitegate Primary and Nursery School

Whitegate Primary School held an 8am cosy read with parents complete with hot drinks and breakfast snacks to start the day!
Abbey Hill Primary and Nursery School
Our children chose their World Book Day voucher books which were delivered directly to school for us to share and enjoy on World Book Day. And even our staff go the extra mile to celebrate Dr. Seuss!
We held a book swap where pupils swapped old books for new ones.

Our staff and pupils have also been involved in a reading at home ‘Extreme Reading challenge’ proving reading at home. Staff and pupils have been challenge
d to read in an imaginative way or place. Miss McFall and Miss Bunce have been turning pages whilst lifting the weights, Mr P has been reading pitch side with Chesterfield FC, and Sam has been turning pages at the Oche.

A fantastic World Book Day moment: Miss Trunchbull and Matilda bringing Roald Dahl’s classic to life. Three of our Year 5 children worked together as a team to dress up as characters from Alice in Wonderland.
Sutton Road Primary School
At Sutton Road Primary School, we held a book fair in our new library all week.
Reading Buddies have enjoyed sharing books in our new library.
Our Reading Champions have held a ‘Story In a Jar’ competition to celebrate World Book Day.
Oliver: “I like the library because you can come and read a book so that you forget all of the stress.”

Bulwell St Mary’s CofE Primary and Nursery School
We were delighted to welcome CBeebies presenter and author Joanna Adeyinka Burford for a special World Book Day visit. Joanna is the author of What’s Up – 30 Encouragements to Fuel Your Faith, an inspiring collection of devotions designed to support and uplift young people at every stage of life. She led a joyful and reflective Collective Worship, where she spoke openly about her life, her faith, and her journey with Jesus. Joanna also shared one of the devotionals from her book and led the children in a prayer.

Transform Trust
