  • Brierley Forest Primary and Nursery School proudly opened its excellent Early Years’ facility in November

Everyone at Transform Trust was delighted to see Brierley Forest Primary and Nursery School launching its brand-new Early Years’ facility on 7 November. The rebuild has completely transformed what was an outdated, over-extended space into a bright, open, child-centred learning environment designed around modern Early Years’ education.

The opening launch combined a sense of occasion with fun, excitement and pride. As well as the well-equipped classrooms and communal areas, the space also embraces outdoor play through its new mud kitchen, climbing equipment and cycle track - complete with road markings to promote safe play and road awareness. Every aspect of the build combines engagement and learning, a key element of the school’s vision which is reflected through all of our family of schools.

The ceremonial ribbon cutting was officiated by Deputy Lieutenant Liz Barrett OBE DL, Principal of
ATTFE College and a respected local community leader. Liz, who was born and lives in Ashfield, is deeply involved in the community including her role as Theme Lead for Discover Ashfield’s “Love Where You Live”. Passionate about social mobility and community regeneration, Liz was awarded an OBE in 2022 for services to education.

Brierley Forest’s Head teacher, Sarah Griffith said “Today has been pure magic. We are grateful to everyone who came along, including Deputy Lieutenant Liz Barrett. The fantastic new area we have for Early Years is something to be proud of and we know that everyone is excited to start using it and enjoying the many benefits it will offer our youngest children. The hard work and dedication that has gone into this project has been a long time at the planning and development stage – and to see it come to fruition is a real joy.”

The event brought the community together to see the different areas of the facility come to life through a Stay and Play session, guided tours and refreshments made and served by our wonderful children. Some of the pupils had also been busy planting a range of flowers, plants and food in the new garden – another example of the power of education through immersive, practical activity.

Uniting the community further, children from across the school led a Remembrance Day-themed creative activity. The care and thought that formed the core of this tribute linked Brierley Forest with the mining and military heritage that is an enduring part of its Ashfield community.

Much of the day’s itinerary was planned and supported by the School Council and Attendance Directors. These are key roles held by our children and are in place to reward and encourage leadership qualities, good attendance and represent the other pupils within the school.

    Well done to School Councillors:

    Tomass Y6, Scarlett Y5, Skye Y5, Oliver W Y6, Victoria Y6, Connie Y4, Tayla Y4, Teddy Y6, Brandon Y5

    Thank you to Attendance Directors:

    Divine Y4, Reyaan Y5, Tayla H Y5, Sadie Y5, Olivia N Y3, Phinn Y3

For the future, new families to the school, and those who are considering joining, are being welcomed with a guided tour and Stay and Play sessions. This will help children become familiar with their surroundings, preparing them for a successful and positive transition into school life.
